It’s crazy to think this is the last month of free games before the next generation hits. So what way to send off the last-gen? Let’s see what Sony and Microsoft have lined up for us…
Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut (available October 1 to 31 on Xbox One) – You play an, err, adorable villain out to terrorise camp counsellors. Actually sounds quite decent, a horror puzzle game.
Maid of Sker (available October 16 to November 15 on Xbox One) – inspired by tales of a Welsh folklore, it’s a scary, stealth ‘em up. Interesting.
Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy (available October 1 to 15 on Xbox One & Xbox 360) – more stealth, this time playing as Sphinx and a Mummy (his friend) to uncover stolen magical items from Egypt.
Costume Quest (available October 16 to 31 on Xbox One & Xbox 360) – RPG themed puzzle action set in a Halloween theme.
Need for Speed: Payback (PS4) – an arcade racer with sadly frustrating cop chases. A cheesy story and confusing upgrade system don’t make this the best Need for Speed sadly.
Vampyr (PS4) – Surprisingly good RPG game, definitely a slow burner and not what you might expect if you see it positioned as a third-person vampire game. Some post-launch updates have also improved this experience considerably.
