For anyone tempting to turn their consoles on in the insane heatwave, there’s some good prizes this month in the free game collection, let’s take a look:
Forza Horizon 2 Standard – 10th Anniversary Edition – (August 1 to 31 on Xbox One) – you get Forza 2 (which is brilliant) and some extra cars and the Forza app (which is free anyway, weird). It’s a great racing game, which ups the ante of the original Forza Horizon. Recommended.
For Honor Standard Edition (August 16 to September 15 on Xbox One) – multiplayer melee combat, with knights, vikings and samurai going at it. This is incredible melee action, it’s a brilliant fighting game. The learning curve is kind of steep as it’s just different to what most are used to, but pick a character and stick with it.
Dead Space 3 (August 1 to 15 on Xbox One and Xbox 360) – the space horror franchise drops the scares and ups the action in this sequel which is still good but misses the mark slightly.
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two (August 16 to 31 on Xbox One and Xbox 360) – confession: I’ve not played a Disney Epic Mickey game, but it looks like colourful platforming fun.
Mafia III (PS4) – open world gangster sim bogged down by Ubisoft scatter shotgun of repetitive missions across a large map.
Dead by Daylight (PS4) – asymmetric horror survival that’s sadly better for the one rather than the team but enjoyable for a short blast with friends.
Knowledge is Power (PS Plus Bonus – PlayLink) – quiz fun on the couch with a bonus game using the PS4 playlink feature.
Here They Lie (PS Plus Bonus – PS VR required) – a dark, psychological BR experience slightly marred by sub-par frame rates.
Bound by Flame (PS3) – a fantasy themed role playing game where you have been possessed by a demon.
Serious Sam 3: BFE (PS3) – manic first-person shooter action.
Draw Slasher (PS Vita) – draw on screen to slash the baddies in this 2d adventure.
Space Hulk (PS Vita) – turn based tactics game based on the Games Workshop’ tabletop game of the same name.
