May means two Bank Holidays so here are the month’s free games to help spend that time:
Defense Grid 2 – May 1-31, Xbox One
Tower defence action, some nice modifiers help mix up a classic formula.
Costume Quest 2 – May 16-June 15, Xbox One
Fairly short yet amusing and interesting RPG. It’s quite cute and has a pretty good combat system.
Grid 2 – May 1-15, Xbox 360 (& Xbox One)
Quality racing game from Codemasters. The handling isn’t the best actually (although very subjective) but there’s a lot to race here and it looks fantastic for its age.
Peggle – May 16-31, Xbox 360 (& Xbox One)
The purest definition of an oldie but a goodie. Peggle is an absolute classic and if you’ve not played it now there is no excuse. Bring on the unicorns.
Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, PS3
Sequel to the brilliant Bionic Commando Rearmed it adds some new gameplay mechanics but in my opinion wasn’t quite as good. Still, it’s free right?
God of War: Ghost of Sparta, PS Vita
Handheld God of War action told in flashbacks from the king of beating things up beyond recognition, Kratos.
LocoRoco Cocoreccho!, PS3
Describes as an ‘interactive screensaver; – err, not sure what else to add to this. It looks nice?
Switch Galaxy Ultra, PS4, PS Vita
On rails, blistering speed-racer with pick up and psychedelic visuals. Think Amplitude but racing.
Table Top Racing: World Tour, PS4
I’m excited about this – with the creater of WipeOut behind it, TTR looks like a spiritual successor to micro machines. Awesome.
Tropico 5, PS4
RTS action as you play El Presidente. Not just building cities, you need to keep the people in check – political sabotage and secret police are the order of the day.
