For anyone wishing to tempt turning their console on in this heat, there’s a decent selection of free games this month for you to risk melting your plastic over:
Absolver (PS4) – an MMO fighting game, creating your own styles as you go from fighting and training. Very interested to try this one!
Heavy Rain (PS4) – infamous story game where you have to uncover the mystery of a missing child. Worth a play, if only to experience the classic meme, “Press X to Jason”.
Rayman HD (PS3) – wonderful platformer from Ubisoft. 2D platforming as you remember it (arguably better).
Extreme Exorcism (PS3) – action platforming with a spooky twist as you play a medium forced with ridding a house of evil spirits.
Space Overlords (PS Vita + PS4) – widely panned for lack of fun and copious bugs, at least you get to experience if its all hyperbole in this roaming shooter.
Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma (PS Vita) – well received adventure game following nine people who are kidnapped by a masked person known as Zero.
Assault Android Cactus – July 1-31 (Xbox One) – cutesy twin stick shooter which was received well by critics.
Death Squared – July 16-August 15 (Xbox One) – a multiplayer puzzle game about communication and robotic explosions. Looks like fun.
Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown – July 1-15 (Xbox 360, Xbox One) – a classic! One of the most refined Virtua Fighter games now back compatible on Xbox One from it’s 360 version. Fun fact, I competed in a Virtua Fighter tournament when I was younger (but I didn’t win).
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction – July 16-31 (Xbox 360, Xbox One) – I have a soft spot for the Splinter Cell games. The death of Sam Fisher’s daughter may not have been accidental, and Sam is on the case. Great game.
