As we thunder towards Christmas there are some quality AAA games being released at the moment, but if you’re saving a few quid for the big visit from Santa there’s plenty of free stuff to keep you going…
Trackmania Turbo: Available November 1 to 30 on Xbox One – Hardcore arcade racing action on some insane tracks.
Tales from the Borderlands: Available November 16 to December 15 on Xbox One – all five episodes of this Telltale comedy adventure. This is most definitely one of Telltale’s best pointy clicky titles.
Nights into Dreams…: Available November 1 to 15 on Xbox One and Xbox 360 – classic action remastered for Xbox. Does it stand the test of time? You decide. We loved this back on the Sega Saturn!
Deadfall Adventure: Available November 16 to 30 on Xbox One and Xbox 360 – fairly terrible treasure hunting adventure set in Mayan ruins, Egyptian deserts, if you make it that far.
Worms Battlegrounds (PS4) – classic worms action on PS4, arguably better than the later released WMD which went a bit too heavy on vehicles for my liking.
Bound (PS4/PS VR) – incredible landscapes and emotional storytelling are at the heart of this adventure, VR is optional.
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood (PS Plus bonus – PS VR Required) – on rails shooter set in the Until Dawn universe. I couldn’t get past the starting bit of this, too scary!
That’s You! (PS Plus bonus – PlayLink) – quiz game, free. Still. They’re really pushing this, it could be useful for family things around Christmas.
R-Type Dimensions (PS3) – classic side scrolling shooter action from the fabled R Type franchise. You can’t go wrong with that, surely…
Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic (PS3) – ‘bouncy fighty action fighting fun’ is the best way to describe this. If you can play it with more players it’s incredibly funny.
Dungeon Punks (PS Vita & PS4) – colourful 2D action RPG.
Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse [Ep. 1 & 2] (PS Vita) – point and click returns! The Broken Sword series continues great storytelling and tricky puzzles.
